I traveled to Belize in January of 2019 for an study tour based on art and psychology. Through this experience, myself and my peers learned of the intricate beauty which makes the country of Belize unlike any other. Our time was spent of the picturesque island of Caye Caulker. The small size of the island allowed us to make personal bonds and form intimate relationships with the locals. Their genuine hospitality, and sincere concern about the well-being of others was eye-opening in that it evoked the feeling of, "this is what life should be like..."

A mantra held dear to the women of Belize is, "Never Leave Yourself". In its purest essence, this means to hold true to your authentic self, and to not compromise on your morals or values for another person. This motto is often associated with the rampant domestic violence endured by many of these women. This series of micron pen and watercolor is my dedication to the strength, power and pure tenacity of these women.
